The Digital Ottoman Gazetteer Project
The Digital Ottoman Gazetteer Project is an innovative digital humanities initiative led by Dr. Fatma Aladağ and awarded support under the ADEP. The project aims to document and analyze the place names of the Ottoman Empire’s geography spanning over six centuries, by developing a digital atlas that links historical place names with modern geographic coordinates and makes them accessible through an open and interactive platform. Within this scope, data drawn from Ottoman archival documents, toponymic dictionaries, and international geographical databases are systematically processed and mapped using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies.
