Migration Lab

Migration Laboratory is an interdisciplinary research laboratory that approaches migration and displacement from a human-centered perspective. Our team members, coming from different fields such as psychology, sociology, international relations, and communication, jointly examine the processes experienced by migrants and the ways societies respond to these processes.

What Do We Work On?

We focus on themes such as integration, diaspora, social cohesion, digitalization, and the experiences of young migrants. We approach integration not as a one-sided process of assimilation, but as a dynamic and long-term process that involves the mutual adaptation and responsibilities of both migrants and host societies.

Research and Project Development

Our laboratory creates impact both in the field and in academia through projects supported by ADEP, TÜBİTAK, and the European Union. Within these projects, we collect data using both quantitative and qualitative methods and translate research findings directly into field practices. Our interdisciplinary empirical studies—conducted in areas such as health, education, family psychological support, and social participation—reveal the multidimensional nature of integration.

Collaboration and Social Contribution

With the awareness that studying migration is not only an academic endeavor, we collaborate with universities, civil society organizations, and migrant communities. During field research, we organize joint activities with local and international stakeholders and encourage mutual learning processes. Based on the data we produce, we develop recommendations for policies and the public sphere, contributing to the strengthening of support mechanisms for both migrants and host societies.

What Do We Aim For?

Our aim is to create a field in which migrants are positioned as agents, integration is understood as a process of mutual adaptation, and social policies are shaped by evidence-based empirical research. In this direction, as a laboratory that questions existing assumptions and develops innovative solutions, we will continue to make concrete contributions to the migration literature and to broader social debates.
