The official opening ceremony of the Marmara University Institute of Population and Social Research took place on October 23, 2024, with a broad attendance. Along with the Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çelen and Prof. Dr. Hasan Korkut, department chairs and faculty members of various departments, institute directors, heads of departments, and researchers attended the ceremony.
In his opening speech, Institute Director Prof. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Aysan, emphasized the national and international interdisciplinary studies conducted by the institute in the field of social sciences and made a call for academic collaboration on future projects. He informed the attendees about the strategic steps that will contribute to the Institute's mission of increasing social welfare. Additionally, he highlighted the institute's objectives to foster the development of both Turkish and international young researchers through international cooperation programs, such as Erasmus.
Aysan, underlined that one of the institute's achievements, the TÜBİTAK 1007 Research Project on Violence Against Women in Türkiye - 2024, is one of the most comprehensive social science projects ever conducted in Türkiye. Prof. Dr. Hasan Korkut, Vice Rector and Director of the Institute of Middle East and Islamic Countries Researches, appreciated the scientific initiatives of the institute and congratulated the institute on this success.
Furthermore, Assistant Director Assoc. Prof. Asil Özdoğru, Head of the Department of Demography, Dr. Zeynep Selen Artan, Head of the Department of Social Research, Dr. Mehmet Fuat Kına and affiliated researchers also delivered speeches. In their speeches, they mentioned the research they are currently conducting and the academic goals of the institute, while emphasizing their openness to interdisciplinary collaborations for future projects.
Aysan, emphasised the determination of the institute to become a significant scientific centre both in Türkiye and on a global scale through data-driven research and solution-oriented approaches. He expressed confidence that the steps taken in this direction would resonate with the international scientific community.
